My Heart Runs | John Mark McMillan

Fed by waterfalls and surrounded by towering green cliffs, Milford Sound might be the single most beautiful place I’ve ever been. Plus when the tide goes out, you can walk right out into the middle of it!

This was basically the perfect location to sing “Heart Runs”… except the song was so new at the time that I kept messing it up! I forgot the words and at the end of a long day I was losing my voice. Then we began to notice the tide was returning and we hadn’t landed a take yet! So if I look intense, it’s only because I thought I was watching our perfect situation disappear before my eyes while I ruined every opportunity! This might be why we never released this video. Though after seeing it again years later, I think we did get a decent take, even if I look like I’m about to throw my guitar in the water!

INTIMACY IS THE STRATEGY

INTIMACY IS THE STRATEGY

Our mandate as a church is discovered in Jesus’ words “on earth as it is in heaven” but the implementation is discovered when Jesus said, “I pray that you would be one just as We are one.” The strategy is intimacy.

The Thorn…

Here is a thought, the grace that was sufficient for Paul was the same grace Jesus operated in; the same grace in which Jesus become poor that His rich power would be available to all of us. It’s the same “grace of God that brings salvation” Paul wrote about in Titus 2:11. Could it be that the power of this grace is the whole point of Paul’s message? Of course, it is!

Turn The Damn Thing Off!

There were two ways to report on the Promised Land, from man’s perspective or Gods. There are two ways to see our lives, from man’s perspective or Gods. These are always the two perspectives we must choose from when it comes to life.

This is Not a Counseling Session

I sat across from the couple trying not to fidget, trying to keep a look of calm on my face, I was supposed to be the fella with the answers, the counselor. I wasn’t a Counselor.

The Skill Saw

Here’s the thing, if we believe God is about control, it affects everything. Every experience and encounter is filtered through the insecurity of our relationship with a small God. A control-based perspective of God is evidenced by the subtle anxiety we experience in our heart when the furnace breaks down, to the blatant sense of righteousness when a rapist gets the death penalty.

Lightning On The Lake

The lightning and thunder did not disappoint. The rain fell so heavy you couldn’t see 10 yards. I was a boy again, making jokes, laughing and though I didn’t sing, it was close. We told stories about people getting struck by lightning – each one of us trying to better the previous tale.

Put Your Sword Away

Peter believed Jesus’ kingdom on earth would need swords and men willing to use them. It would require sacrifice, the willingness to die for Jesus, and also, the willingness to kill for Jesus…
