My Heart Runs | John Mark McMillan

Fed by waterfalls and surrounded by towering green cliffs, Milford Sound might be the single most beautiful place I’ve ever been. Plus when the tide goes out, you can walk right out into the middle of it!

This was basically the perfect location to sing “Heart Runs”… except the song was so new at the time that I kept messing it up! I forgot the words and at the end of a long day I was losing my voice. Then we began to notice the tide was returning and we hadn’t landed a take yet! So if I look intense, it’s only because I thought I was watching our perfect situation disappear before my eyes while I ruined every opportunity! This might be why we never released this video. Though after seeing it again years later, I think we did get a decent take, even if I look like I’m about to throw my guitar in the water!

SURE IN LOVE

SURE IN LOVE

Our Heavenly Father is always good and doesn’t desire desperate kids. Any relationship where kids are desperate for their Father is dysfunctional. Jesus revealed what it looks like to live sure as a loved son of our Father and gave us access to this same sureness.

I CALL YOU FRIENDS

I CALL YOU FRIENDS

“I no longer call you servant, I call you friend.” This is the invitation Jesus gave us. There is no servant master language in heaven. Obedience is the invitation to discover God’s heart until ours beats in rhythm with His.

He Loves Me Best: For the Joy Set Before Him

John had a revelation of God and described it as a uniquely shared love that was only available between the two of them. Essentially, what John communicated through his gospel was that as far as he was concerned, he was Jesus’ favorite. Jesus loved him best.

The Father Never Turned His Back

The Father never turned His back, He never left, or forsook Jesus, He never abandoned, not even for a moment. His love was just as good as it’s always been.

Mercy and Grace

Jesus didn’t just come to set us free from sin; He came to empower us into righteousness. He didn’t just reveal the Father in all His mercy, He revealed the Father in all His grace. Jesus never released mercy without following up with grace. In fact, mercy is incomplete without it.

Love Trumps

Jesus didn’t come to set us straight on how much we needed Him. That was abundantly clear from the moment Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit. He came to give us access to love—receiving and giving, beholding and becoming.

I Am

He is “I Am,” which means, He is the God of right now. Yesterday He was God, and tomorrow He is God, and it’s good to know this, but today I really want to know Him as “I Am,” the God of right now.
