My Heart Runs | John Mark McMillan

Fed by waterfalls and surrounded by towering green cliffs, Milford Sound might be the single most beautiful place I’ve ever been. Plus when the tide goes out, you can walk right out into the middle of it!

This was basically the perfect location to sing “Heart Runs”… except the song was so new at the time that I kept messing it up! I forgot the words and at the end of a long day I was losing my voice. Then we began to notice the tide was returning and we hadn’t landed a take yet! So if I look intense, it’s only because I thought I was watching our perfect situation disappear before my eyes while I ruined every opportunity! This might be why we never released this video. Though after seeing it again years later, I think we did get a decent take, even if I look like I’m about to throw my guitar in the water!

THAT WE WOULD BE ONE

This message was given at The Reformers Gathering in 2019 at The Gate Church in Charlotte NC. This message is an invitation into the reformation that Jesus started 2000 years ago, it is an invitation into oneness with Christ.

SURE IN LOVE

SURE IN LOVE

Our Heavenly Father is always good and doesn’t desire desperate kids. Any relationship where kids are desperate for their Father is dysfunctional. Jesus revealed what it looks like to live sure as a loved son of our Father and gave us access to this same sureness.

I CALL YOU FRIENDS

I CALL YOU FRIENDS

“I no longer call you servant, I call you friend.” This is the invitation Jesus gave us. There is no servant master language in heaven. Obedience is the invitation to discover God’s heart until ours beats in rhythm with His.

“The two greatest myths that we, as humans, believe, are the myth of separation and the myth of scarcity.”

My Grandma Was Prone To Love…

The cross is only beautiful because of the empty tomb. We celebrate His death because of His resurrection. I would like to suggest that the power of Love is perfected when sinners become saints. That was the whole point of Jesus death and resurrection – that we would encounter Love and become love.

The Mexican Hamburger

“Yeah? How do you think it became known as the missionary position?” I asked. Nobody laughed. But I didn’t want to sleep with my wife so we could practice being good missionaries; I wanted to sleep with my wife because it was cold!

I Exist To Know His Love

My story and yours will continue to be one in which we discover our Dad and in turn ourselves. Discovering our Father is the most important thing we will ever do. It transforms us and sets us free to live as His sons and daughters. The good news is, Jesus was sure in his identity and because of this, we can also become sure in ours…

Elmer’s Fortune

Elmer ate Chinese alone in a corner booth of Taste of NY Restaurant; chicken and broccoli with string beans. Elmer used a plastic fork.

He watched a neighboring table of young people; early twenties. They were hanging all over each other, familiar in the way of youth. One girl, in a yellow sweater, was reading a fortune from her cookie. Elmer couldn’t make it out but heard the last words

“in bed.”

Everyone laughed and Elmer smiled, tiredly.
He knew the game.

“The Wages of Sin…” in Context

What if “the wages of sin is death” is announcing the inherent consequences to sinful actions and what they will produce in this life, as opposed to saying if we sin we deserve torment?
