What is Hell?

“Hell is not His punishment of sinners; it is the end result of our defiant rejection of the reality of our divine union. “You can’t break away from this divine flame of love. Hell is not separation from God; no one gets that much privacy.

“No, the more you resist his flame of love, your resistance is your own self-condemnation. He is not the enemy of the damned, but the savior of the damned. He came to save the world, but the world stood self-condemned already because of their very rejection of Mr. Life.”

– John Crowder

We are free to reject Him all we want, but we can’t stop Him from loving and pursuing us.

Jesus stepped down into the depth of our depravity. To the very bottom rung of the ladder – He swallowed up our darkness in uncreated light. He destroyed our decay, our depression, our decrepit state of separation in His own servant body on the cross. That, in a nutshell, was the point of the cross – it was about curing the human condition, not paying off an angry Father who was against us.

“I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom 8:39)

Isn’t that just good news!

Love you

Sovereignty and the Old Testament: chapter six, THE ZEBRA

Long ago, I made Jesus, sovereign love, my hermeneutic, my “methodology of interpretation,” (6) the lens through which my entire theology is defined.

A Hard Teaching & Burning Hearts

“Does this offend you?” the Emmaus Road Jesus asked His disciples. For many, it did, and understandably so. “From this time, many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed Him. ‘You do not want to leave too, do you?’ Jesus asked the Twelve.”

Simon Peter answered, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that You are the Holy One of God.’”

Equality As Jesus Revealed It

I’m describing equality as Jesus revealed it. It’s not “equals” based on measurements; it has nothing to do with finite thinking or microscopes. I’m writing about an equality revealed by Greater Love laying down His life for His friends. Self-giving, other-centered love is the birthplace of true equality and is discovered in union.
