What is Hell?

“Hell is not His punishment of sinners; it is the end result of our defiant rejection of the reality of our divine union. “You can’t break away from this divine flame of love. Hell is not separation from God; no one gets that much privacy.

“No, the more you resist his flame of love, your resistance is your own self-condemnation. He is not the enemy of the damned, but the savior of the damned. He came to save the world, but the world stood self-condemned already because of their very rejection of Mr. Life.”

– John Crowder

We are free to reject Him all we want, but we can’t stop Him from loving and pursuing us.

Jesus stepped down into the depth of our depravity. To the very bottom rung of the ladder – He swallowed up our darkness in uncreated light. He destroyed our decay, our depression, our decrepit state of separation in His own servant body on the cross. That, in a nutshell, was the point of the cross – it was about curing the human condition, not paying off an angry Father who was against us.

“I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom 8:39)

Isn’t that just good news!

Love you
Lloyd

The Skill Saw

Here’s the thing, if we believe God is about control, it affects everything. Every experience and encounter is filtered through the insecurity of our relationship with a small God. A control-based perspective of God is evidenced by the subtle anxiety we experience in our heart when the furnace breaks down, to the blatant sense of righteousness when a rapist gets the death penalty.

The Power of Assurance

I would like to suggest that Jesus spent those formative thirty years becoming sure in His Father’s love.

Panic In The Backseat

When Karen was five, she had her first and only panic attack. It was on a Sunday, after church. She had a tummy ache and, with it, a sudden terror. What if she died? She began to hyperventilate. So, dad and mom put her in the car, where she sat in the back seat between her grandmothers. And they raced to the hospital.

In that moment of paralyzing fear, when five-year-old Karen thought she was dying, she told her grandmothers she wanted to ask Jesus into her heart.

And she did.
