Offended By God's Goodness
Jason speaks on the offensively good news. The Love of God. He speaks on the measureless revelation of love, how love is beyond our ability to comprehend, how love exists beyond time and space, how love continually is better than our understanding and invites us to repent, be set free and grow in love.
This message was given in February 2020 at The Gate Church
…Jesus was constantly revealing God as better than our understanding. He kept doing things God wouldn’t seem to do.
He healed people on the Sabbath, something God wouldn’t do.
He ministered to children in a way that was better than how God would do it.
He interacted with women in a way that was better than how God would do it.
Same with gentiles and even gentile women!
He didn’t call down fire on that village even though His disciples believed it was what God would do. They had Biblical reason.
He didn’t punish that woman caught in adultery even though everyone knew that’s what God would do. It also could be backed by Scripture.
Jesus constantly did things that were way better than how God would do them. Even better than what the Bible said God would do. And all along the way, He offended people with how good He believed God was.
Humanity had God boxes and Jesus kept blowing them up.
And nothing has changed.
He keeps revealing that He is better than our understanding, even better than many of our Biblical interpretations.
We all have God boxes, but thankfully, He won’t stay in them.
It’s the goodness of God that leads us to change the way we think. It’s a revelation of His kindness that causes us to repent; that leads to a renewed mind. And we are transformed as our minds are renewed.
He is good, often offensively so. And I’m learning that to grow, to be transformed, I must be willing to be offended by how good He is. I must be willing to let His kindness blow up my God boxes.
Because I’ve discovered that His goodness is what leads me to repentance and this is where I am transformed and become more like Him…
