One story, a shared table.
In 2014, Karen and I found ourselves dreaming with our Father. While A Family Story became a nonprofit that year, the story itself had been unfolding for years. Out of those conversations came A Family Story—not as a ministry to build, but as an invitation to help people encounter the God Jesus has always revealed. A God who has never stood at a distance, never withheld His affection, and has always been closer than we imagined.
A Family Story was birthed from our own awakening faith journey. We didn't begin with a strategy or a five-year plan. We began with the question that refused to let us go:
What if God is exactly like Jesus?
Following that question changes everything. It unravels a faith shaped by fear, performance, and separation, and leads us to discover what has been true all along—that the Father doesn't need to be convinced to love us. Now we spend our lives inviting others into that same discovery.
Love has always been His starting place. His affection has never wavered, His presence has never left, and we've always been His beloved children. We aren't finding a better version of Christianity; we are waking up to the family Jesus has been revealing from the very beginning.
A Family Story is the Kingdom story Jesus revealed. We simply keep telling that story any way we know how. Through books, podcasts, films, children's stories, dinner table conversations, and friendships around the world. Hundreds of podcast conversations, decades of writing, and countless shared meals all point to the same hope: that people would encounter the love of God and discover they have always belonged.
That's why we call this A Family Story.
Because in the end it's always been about helping people come home to the family they've always been part of.
Love is not something God does. Love is who God is. And you were made from love, for love.
